In April 2026 I saw a total of 14 different seadragons: 13 that I have been seeing since the start of the year plus a new subadult, "Jay" first spotted by another diver, Jason, on 25 April.

The month was pretty good from a diving perspective with 11 dives, although given it included Easter and ANZAC Day I could have done more if not for poor conditions on a few days.

It was great to see all of the current 13 seadragons at Kurnell and even better to see a new one.

Jason spotted "Jay" near kelp in an area of The Steps that I don't visit very often. Last time I was near that area was while looking for "Greg" the subadult from 2025. I wasn't able to find "Jay" on 25 or 26 April but finally spotted them on 27 April.

I normally have to go all the way to The Monument to see "Ricardo", and did on my first dive in April but on 18 April he was pretty much at The Steps.

I am somewhat concerned about "Dan". When I saw him on 25 April he had excess mucus on his flank. This looked similar to the start of the skin sloughing we saw in late 2022 and early 2023.

It didn't look as bad when I saw him on 26 April but I have not been able to find him since.
